Iran: War is upon us…
War is upon us…
The last time I remember this feeling was on my honeymoon in Thailand. I was married to a young Marine. The most recent war had lasted 100 days. It was three weeks before 9/11. The direction of my life changed forever. I was a red carpet celebrity fashion designer for Richard Tyler, a highly respected fashion house.
Richard was named the Godfather of LA Fashion. When we went to war with Iraq, I decided to follow Erik into military life and give up my blossoming career. My fear was he would die at war. Even though we had been married for a few years, we prioritized our careers and decided to live apart, for the first three years of our marriage. I gave up everything to become a military spouse. It was a very hard time, in so many ways.
Today, as the weight of war with Iran is impending. I think of my fellow military spouses and their active members. This is the beginning of the rest of your new lives. What you had planned, will have to wait. Our nation will owe you all a greater debt than they will ever know, experience, and/or appreciate.
I am sorry for the losses of your friends that you will incur. I am sorry for the dreams that must die. I am sorry for the many birthdays that your children will experience without their whole family. I am sorry for all of the nights you will have to comfort your children, reassuring them, praying for the one who is gone, to come home.
